About us

Hello, Kia ora...

Welcome to our home.

South Fiord Bed & Breakfast.

Proudly New Zealand owned and operated.

We completed the building of  our new home in late  2014.

South Fiord is set on 5 acres, only a few minutes from town.

With stunning views of the mountains and lake Te Anau, from all rooms,

We both come from a rural background with over 20 years farming sheep & beef in the high country of Central Otago.
John with also 20+ years service to St. John's as a paramedic,

We have 3 wonderful  adult children and 3 grandchildren.

We embraced a change of life style in 2009, with the move to Te Anau

 A little about John

Being a Paramedic in rural Te Anau involves the challenges of helicopter work in remote areas and road based work within our town.

He works on 4 day shift rotation. He is happy to discuss some of the Challenges he has encounted  at work with dealing with remote areas.
On his days off he still enjoys getting out in the bush for hunting and tramping, and Boating,

John enjoys many a hour or so in his large workshop,

Johns knowledge is wide and varied and enjoys a great chat in the evenings, (well any time really).

Linda

I enjoy gardening Our gardens,  are a mix of natives, flowers,  including a rapidly growing collection of  Peony roses, including 3 large tunnel houses for fruit and vegetables.

I enjoy a gardening Challenge so currently have bananas and pineapples and avocados growing.
Also involved currently in setting up a community garden to help grow vegetables and encourage the knowledge of gardening and feed our community through difficult times.

You will find my free range chooks around the yard, and through the fence we have sheep and house cow who roam in their paddocks. Most of the time we usaly have some sort of baby animal needing feeding that linda has rescued,

Baking and deserts are my favorites to cook, along with harvesting and preserving jams, chutneys, sauces.

I also enjoy the great out doors, and always keen for a walk in the bush with John. I also work part time halfway to Milford Sound.

We both love doing family activities and catching up with our children and grandchildren

Our Family looks forward to meeting you all and sharing our knowledge of this unique country.

This awesome place has so much to offer – Hiking, Tramping, Fishing, Photography, Unique wildlife, Biking – and being a World Heritage Area makes it extra special too.
